About

  • Each Workbook contains summary of theoretical information and exercises designated to help students to develop their skills in organic chemistry learning.
  • Thus, the student self-directed studies are realized in all kinds of classes, i.e. lecture classes, laboratory works, and student self-directed studies with an instructor. The most productive part of the lecture class is to use a Workbook after the theoretical bases studying. Students solve some problems, prepare reports, do quizzes, and summarize their knowledge in both written and oral forms.

The Workbook structure on Organic Chemistry

The Workbook includes chapters on 6 themes: (1)Introduction to Organic Chemistry, (2)Alkanes, (3)Cycloalkanes, (4)Alkenes, (5)Alkynes, (6)Dienes.

Each chapter consists of a standard set of 5-10 units, as a rule:
  1. Theoretical information about considered classes of organic compounds
    • Unit 1.  Structure of Alkyl halide
    • Unit 2. Mechanism of competing processes: SN and β-E
    • Unit 3. Homologous series
  2. Practical problems for reinforcement, generalization, and expansion knowledge on Organic Chemistry. The major tasks are connected with the future speciality of students
    • Unit 4. Nomenclature, isomerism
    • Unit 5. Preparation  methods
    • Unit 6. Chemical properties
  3. Industrial use of important chemicals
    • Unit 7. Use of halogen compounds. Translation
    • Unit 8. Video: ozone depletion (several videos)
    • Unit 9. Trilingual Glossary
  4. Tests
    • Unit 10. Quiz. It is an obligatory component of a Workbook to check comprehension of the given theme.
